Creative exposure

Notes: creative exposure - white out

  • Use the viewfinder or LCD for creative exposure, don’t rely on highlight alerts or histograms.
  • Preserve texture in fabrics like silk while allowing certain areas to blow out for artistic effect.
  • Practice techniques for shooting portraits against overcast skies, focusing on the exposure adjustments necessary to capture the right mood. There will be more on this in the Flash Mastery section.
  • Adjust exposure when changing composition angles, especially when dealing with backlighting and high-contrast scenes. Use your eyes to make exposure judgements.
  • I want to encourage you to express artistic freedom in your photography, especially in breaking traditional rules about avoiding blown-out highlights.
